my 1997 kx 500 is great all my frends jumped on the four stroke wagon and every time we go riding they all eat my dirt and cant even come close to the kx in a all out drag race or up any hills, it smokes em all
Fast Bike , But even better with a bigger sprocket on the front.
Maybe Not - After the sprocket I broke my leg.
Now I have to wait to enjoy the adrenaline on the KX500
This is the best offroad motorcycle ever.
The only area where this bike loses any ground to the CRF450's is on big sandy dunes becuase the 450's have much more torque.
Overall i give this bike a 4.8
This bike is the best Kawasaki dirt machine ever built. It will woop up on any other bike I have ever had. It will always be #1 in my book! (just an opinion)
it is the best 2-stroke ever!!! i have a 04 and it almost stock and have not met a 4-stroker that can beat it yet

the kx 500 is a fast bike, but i wouldn't say it beats everything i have 2 friends with kx 500's which are not stock and i can beat them on my 450 which isn't stock either, but all in all they are nice bikes
Bought one last week. Not as full on as I would have thought. It could be more responsive. Don't get me wrong it is still pretty full on. Because it is so smooth I think you loose reality of speed.
Had to put 13 tooth on front and 50 tooth on back so I can whip around mx track. For trails I will probably just change front back to 14 tooth. First top end rebuild it will want head work. Port and polish. This will get her to crack quicker.
The 04 kx500 is an awesome bike. Anyone who says thier bike is faster is just talking. This bike is unbelievably fast,it wants to pull your arms off, I am so impressed. Keep your four stroke and watch me fly by you.

I have a 2002, i played with the carb, a few tweaks on the top end, Uni airfilter, the thing hauls ass. I havent met any other bike, not even the old XR600R or the new 650's can come anywhere close. I recently dragged against a new CRF450 in the desert,
i put a 16 tooth front and 46 tooth rear sprocket on my 2004 kx500 and pull up even with 450 4-strokes in 4th gear...then i shift into 5th and i'm gone. mind bending speed. If this bike doesn't scare you it will hurt you!
