Duda Award to Luckhardt - Monessen Valley Independent

John Luckhardt has won more than his share of awards in a football coaching career spanning over three decades.

He'll add another one to his collection Saturday at California University's annual President's Day when he gets the Michael Duda Award for Athletic Achievement named, in honor of the Donora native who served as the college's president from 1956 until his death in 1968.

In seven seasons, Luckhardt has transformed Cal from a PSAC patsy into one of the NCAA Division II powers.

The winningest football coach in the school's history at 57-24, Luckhardt has been one win away from appearing in the last two national championship games.

Over the past two campaigns, Luckhardt is 25-3, including 13-0 in the PSAC and a title in the first conference championship game held in 21 years.

The Vulcans have won four straight PSAC West crowns and are 41-8 dating back to the 2005 campaign.

Luckhardt is the second straight Cal present-day coach to win the award following softball's Rick Bertagnolli.
